What is being proposed

Uisce Eireann intend to apply for planning permission for development at Oldtown and Ballyboughal wastewater treatment plants, the R129 regional road from Oldtown to Ballyboughal, and the county road from Grange junction to Lispopple. The proposed development is located in the townlands of Oldtown, Wyanstown, Leastown, Westpalstown, Murragh, Grange, Drishoge, Scatternagh and Lispopple. The development will consist of upgrading capacity at Wastewater Treatment facilities at Oldtown and Ballyboughal by reassigning use of the Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) to wastewater pumping/storage facilities and forwarding their combined wastewater loads, via development of new rising mains on the road network, for…

The development will consist of upgrading capacity at Wastewater Treatment facilities at Oldtown and Ballyboughal by reassigning use of the Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) to wastewater pumping/storage facilities and forwarding their combined wastewater loads, via development of new rising mains on the road network, for treatment at Swords WWTP (Discharge license D0024-01). The development will consist of: Oldtown WWTP Decommissioning of existing WWTP to include: making redundant effluent settlement tank, pipework and associated plant; removing sludge handling units; and retaining the control building. Construction of: below ground pumping station with integrated stormwater tank; low-flow pumping station; chemical dosing unit with integral bund; dosing kiosk; conversion of oxidation ditch to washwater storage tank; borehole water extraction chamber; and ground affixed solar panels (36m2). Ballyboughal WWTP Decommissioning of existing WWTP to include: making redundant effluent pipework, inlet works and associated plant; removing equaliser tank and sludge holding tank; converting existing oxidation ditch into a tanker liquors return pumping station; and retaining the control building. Construction of: below ground pumping station with integrated stormwater tank; chemical dosing unit with integral bund; dosing kiosk; Motor Control Centre kiosk; new inlet works; conversion of existing Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) tank to washwater storage tank; odour control unit; borehole water extraction chamber; and ground affixed solar panels (36m2); Installation of below ground pipework (90mm to 180mm ID) on 8.4kms of roadway comprising the R129 regional road between Oldtown and Ballyboughal (Cois Sruthain) and county road between Grange junction and Lispopple. Installation of below ground pipework (90mm to 180mm ID) on 300m of land between Cois Sruthain (Ballyboughal) and Ballyboughal WWTP. All associated servicing and site development works above and below ground, including creation of compensatory flood storage area at Ballyboughal WWTP. Additional information received 03/07/26
